The first three books and the most recent two books in the Peter Maxwell series by MJ Trow are on sale for various prices at Kindle US and UK.
And the other books in the long-ish series are mostly £2.99 in the UK, so if you like the first few, and live in or visit the UK, it won’t break the bank to read the other seventeen either. (Sadly, these others seem to be mostly $4.99 in the US, which is not quite as nice a price. But Joffe books go on sale a lot, and they also come out with omnibuses, so you can keep an eye out here, and I’ll post those when I see them…)
Also note that many of the early books in this series have been previously published in other editions, by other publishers, so check carefully before you buy!
