I read and enjoyed John Julius Norwich’s A Short History of Byzantium in real-paper format several years ago, in the run-up to a combination work/vacation trip to Istanbul. I really enjoyed it, but at around 500 pages, it wasn’t particularly short (!!!), nor was it very convenient to carry around.
So I’m really happy to see the e-book on sale in the UK today for only £0.99. That’s a great price for a fiction e-book, much less for a non-fiction e-book. I bought it before I did this post, just because I didn’t want the price to go away! Now hopefully, someday I’ll have another work trip to Turkey, and can re-read this with ease!

At least Norwich’s A History of Venice doesn’t claim to be short, at more than 600 pages. I read and liked this one too, in the run-up to a vacation trip to Venice. It’s now dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. How can you get a better price per page? Other than free, of course…

Norwich’s A History of Venice is £0.99 at Kindle UK again. The link in the comment above is still good.
I’m a huge Francophile, so I already have Norwich’s A History of France, but it’s nice to see it drop to $2.99 at Kindle US. It’s also published in the UK as France: A History: from Gaul to de Gaulle, which is not only a longer title, but also a cuter one – however as far as I can tell, they are the same book.
